Default ECC damage

Hello, I am new to this, so please let me know if I do something I shouldn't. I own a 93 Grand Cherokee Limited 4,0l, 6L. When I start the engine it works for about 3 secs, and then dies; sometimes alarm triggers and starts flashing, but not always. The guy tells me it must be the ECC (#56029009). Would you guys know how can I test this item before buying it (it costs $900 where I live)

Thanks

Lock and unlock from the passenger door... make sure it activates the power locks, then try it.

Thanks solderjunkie.
As a mater of fact power locks do not work from the passenger, nor the driver door; the remote control is also destroyed. The only working alarm switch is the trunk's.
How would it work? Are you implying that the alarm is what is cutting me out?
Thanks again

Hey guys, just to let you know, and than my experience can help others, at last I didn't change my ECC. All we did is clean up the socket and the ECC contact pannel with contact cleaner spray several times, and now it is working fine.
Even some old functions in the computers inside the car are restored since.
I hope this can be of help.
