Display module freakout

:brickwall:
Ok I'm experiencing a lack of display from the dash below the heat and a controls.
Periodically, very randomly these controls come on disarming the incorrect time and date and whatnot but this isn't a big deal since I know these things. The issue is that the vehicle diagram display comes on and blinks and makes a beeping souns, sometimes a solid buzz notification noize. ?? First time grand cherokee owner, jeep as well, I'm wondering if this is something to be worried about. Looking for knowledge before I tear the console apart and remove the anoyances.

Further description of issue: the diagram shows blinking in red》 the windshield and doors and lights. These all work so I'm concidering my options.

Thanks.

I'm new to these jeeps but they are so resilient I'm enjoying getting my hands dirty with them. #powerhouse

Most likely your VIC (that's what the module is called) is bad, my old '94 had a bad VIC and exhibited similar behaviors... I don't recommend replacing it, but rather removing it, and putting a panel in its place. It's easy to get to:
1. Remove your ashtray by opening it and pushing the little silver clip in and pulling outwards on it.
2. Remove a Philips-head screw holding the ashtray light bulb in place.
3. Remove 2 Philips-head screws above the radio.
4. Remove 2 Philips-head screws above the VIC (module) but below your climate controls.
5. Pull outwards on the bezel surrounding the radio, climate controls, and VIC (module) to remove it.
6. Remove the two (2) 10mm bolts or Philips-head screws (can't remember which, but the radio is held in by 2 10mm bolts so I assume it's 10mm bolts) that hold the VIC (module) in place. Disconnect the plugs.

Hope this helps!
