Will a dana 44 out of a grand cherokee fit in a cherokee? Anyone know how much modification it would take?

Width is right.. but thats about the only thing it has going for it.

This is the D44a.. with an aluminum housing. Honestly, your better off with a readily available and bolt in C8.25 from an XJ.

Thanks. I have an 8.25 in it now, just wanted to go stronger. Having a hard time finding a dana 44 out of an xj.

44 isn't that much of an upgrade from the 29 spline 8.25. About the only benefit is that lack of c-clips in the 44 (the Grand Cherokee has c-clips) but disc brakes off a ZJ takes the worry out of the clips. 35-36s are about the max for a stock 44 and a 8.25 will handle 35s all day. For the cost of a 44 you can get alloy shafts and disc brakes for the 8.25 and be roughly as strong.

^ Good points. The 8.25 also has larger diameter tubes.

Any idea where I could find instructions for the disc brake install. Thanks for the help.
