dana 30 and 44 trac loc/limited slip swap ???
Has anyone ever swaped the dana 30 or 44 out of a wj overland with Trac lok differentials ? Im looking at doing this in my 01 wj instead of a locker cause I do alot of highway driving as well and the thought of limited slip seemed appealing when offroad. I haven't researched if my factory axles have trac lok/limited slip already so if you know please speak up but I have 3.55 gears and the overland diffs have 3.73 gears so was pondering doing this swap. I can buy the rear end for 200.00 and the front end is been hit on the left front so I would have to switch the gears and all over to my dana 30. In short I could buy everything for 250.00.

The rear axle in a 4.0 WJ is a Dana 35. It does not have the c-clips like the older D35c had. You can pull out the rear shafts without opening up the diff to pull the c-clips. The 4.7 has the Dana 44. The front axle is the D30. You can swap in a D44 rear, but you'll need to modify the drive shaft. The universal yoke on the D44 is larger.
Trac-loc was only available in 2WD 4.0 jeeps up until 2001 and was replaced with Vari-loc after that. It seems LSDs were only available in the 2WD models. That's why they are so rare when trying to find one and the reason most guys go with an aftermarket locker. The Quadra-drive system has Vari-loc in both diffs. Vari-loc is a clutch activated locker utilizing fluid pumps on the axles to engage the clutches.

One thing I's like to add is most people don't realize how much stress they put on that whimpy D35 by running big tires, like 33's or such. Unless you put something like 4.10 gears in it, that is. Just a warning.
