crankshaft position sensor

If I remember correctly its held on by 2 13mm bolts and there best gotten from unber with a long exstenshion or it u have a short ratcheting wrench you can get them from top and just lay down on the engine and be car full not to break anything. Best ways from under.

I always use a 38 inch extension and go in around the transfer case to remove them bolts but it I had to do it with out I would say a short wrench and from the top. Might have to bend a wrench a little to make it work best they can be fun without a long exstenshion and a swivel.

my 2 sense
i have a 97 gc 4.0L. i have changed mine twice. you can put the front tires up on ramps ( more comfortable ) , or you can leave the jeep on the ground. if you go at it from behind the bellhousing underneath the middle of the jeep, you can disconnect the shifter cable to the tranny from the metal housing bracket ( you have already seen that you cannot get your hand by it) . on the back side of the bracket ( facing the rear of jeep ) look closely and you just can make out 2 little pinch tabs on the shifter cable ( plastic housing against the inside of the bracket). take some needlenose pliers and pinch the tabs inward. the cable will loosen just enough to allow you to wiggle it down and out of the bracket. now you can easily access the bolt holding on the crank sensor. be mindful if you have a little support bracket the bolt attaches through. it's a spacer more than a bracket. leave it off and you will breakdown a few miles down the road ( been there / done that ) . you can also say screw it and man up and slide under the jeep till your face is just pass the bellhousing ( head towards front bumper ) . you can reach your hands around the top and side of the tranny to take the sensor out without messing with the shifter cable and long extensions. i must warn you though. you will develop severe muscle cramps in your hands and wrists later on in the day from doing it this way. it is a little difficult this way but, it can be done. remember to keep the sensor pushed in firmly against the tranny with one finger while tightening it back up. i have to change mine this way because the plastic housing on my shifter cable disintegrated with time. it takes about a hour to do it this way because of aches in the hands. hope this saga helps you out some. definitely use some ramps if you got them. less headaches from hitting the frame lol.

So I got the crankshaft position sensor changed. It started then died again. I got it started back up but then ran like crap and keeps dying. Any suggestions?

my 2 cents
did you disconnect the negative cable from your battery before changing out your cps? if not, you could have a code that hasn't revealed itself yet with the CEL. if it has a code, it will not run right until you clear it. my 97 is notorious for acting up every time i disconnect the battery for changing out parts.
