I have a Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 petrol which has just had a coolant shortage. It has basically over heated and spat all the water out the bottom of the radiator. It then shut it's self down until it cooled down and had water added to it. After filling it with water and re starting it I started to take it to the garage to get looked at. On the way it drove really smotthly and felt like it had plenty of power. But it then over heated again and spat all the water out again (although gauges read only around 1/4 way up on the scale) Again the car shut down and I had to be recovered.

Now the car won't start and has a permanant red light on the dash (normally flashes) On the dash board it has a symbol on it in the top right corner of a key with an arrow through it. This seems to switch off for a second then come back on when the iginition is cracked over. None of the gauges register anything and the car does not even try to turn over.

Need to try and get some info for the garage as not sure if the car has protection on the engine or it is an alarm / imobilisor issue.

This option prevents operation of the vehicle by disabling the engine. This is for the Gray Key (has a transponder chip in it). Normally the light comes on for 3 seconds as a bulb check. If it stays on it indicates a problem in the electronics.

Check your owner's manual page 12. This is a start for you anyway.
