Cherokee Dying
 

Looking for some advice please. Hopefully y'all can help me out. I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder with 67K miles on it. A couple of times lately when I have been driving it has just died. Running down the road fine and then nothing. It did start back up right away. This morning it wouldn't start at all. Turns over fine, it just wouldn't start. I don't think it's getting any fuel. It doesn't sound like an electrical problem since it turns over just fine. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing before. Am I looking at a new fuel filter, fuel pump etc?
I checked and couldn't find any recalls for this type of problem.

Did the check engine light come on? Take it over the an AutoZone and they can read the computer codes and tell you what the problem was.

Does it stutter at all before its dying or just shuts off?

when i bought my tj, i was told that it had a problem similar to that. dealer recommended that i change the fuel pump. never has let me down, but could be the culprit of your problems.

Thanks for the advice guys. It just dies. The check engine light is not on. Did the code thing last night and no codes come on. Unfortunately, I'd have to tow it over to AutoZone to do that.

It very well could be the fuel pump. Sad thing is, its located in the tank and is pretty expensive.

it could be the fuel pump or it might be the mechnical fuel pressure regulator. while your jeep is off, there is a mechanical device located on the driver side frame rail in front of the gas tank that keeps the proper pressure in the fuel lines for when you start up. it's the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen because the fuel pump should kick on and supply enough pressure for starting when you turn the key. however, if it dies while you're driving it's probably the pump.

It turns out it was the Crank Position Sensor. Thanks.

AH - lucky! Those are pretty hard to diagnose and most often forgotten about.
