Ok i have a 95 grand cherokee with quadratrak. I broke the left front axle shaft fourwheelin the other day. Got a new one put it in drove fine for rest of the day and to work the next. On the way home heard like a hum or whine in the front end almost like goin down the freeway with really big mud tires. It only whines when your on the throttle after 25 mph if your doin 60 and let off the gas it stops if ya hit the gas starts again i went home took the axle out drove around the block no noise i just put wheel bearings in about 3monthes ago and there fine it also makes the noise when you brake any body have any ideas?

Did you get the right axle? The QT axles are not the same as the std diff.

Did the axle let go in a big bang? The pop can do some collateral damage if its harsh enough.

When you installed the axle did you make sure not to "bulldozer" dirt from the tube into the different?

When you were wheeling did you get water in the diff?

Howling differentials usually have unhappy bearings inside, if it changes with throttle, its definitely pinion bearings.

the zj axle shafts are all interchangeable nothing special about the 249 shafts...some ujoints some Cv joints.... did you torque the 36mm axle nut correctly to 160-175lbs ? it sets the preload on the wheel bearing they will fail quick
