A/C Problem: No air ANYWHERE 2004 GC

Apologies for opening a new thread but after much searching I cannot seem to find anyone with the exact problem I have.

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee (Freedom) with the 4.7-liter Power Tech™ V-8.

Yesterday while driving along I heard a "thump" (like a book falling on a shelf) from the passenger side behind the dash or under the hood. Immediately I lost all air flow through my front vents (all 4). The blower continues to run fine and I can even feel the cold air trapped behind whatever is restricting it.

Unlike the issues other people seem to have with their vacuum tubes, I cannot get any air to flow ANYWHERE. Not the defrost or floor either.

I'm a mechanical noob but I'm capable of learning and would truly appreciate any help or suggestions you might have. It's 106 in Texas and I NEED this air...

Welcome to CF. I can understand what you're going through. Read/watch this. It may be the cure to your problems. >->http://www.heatertreater.net/Jeep%20...eo%20Page.html

My Jeep does not have a dual control thermostat and is not digital. Does this affect the diagnosis?

Do you feel any cold air blowing onto the windshield, as if the defrost were on? If so then you may just have a vacuum issue, and you need to look for a leaking/cracked/loose vacuum line. If not, it may still be the blend door issue, or the actuator. JMO

That's what's crazy. I'm not getting any air flow in any direction...

Problem Solved

Wanted to post the eventual solution.

NO air was coming out in any direction (vents, defrost or floor) even though the blower was working fine.

Took the Jeep to a local A/C guy preparing for the worst. He said the the re-circulation door had broken closed and was not allowing air flow.

He quoted the repair at $650 to pull the dash and repair it correctly but what we ended up doing was to just yank out the broken door. Now I can't switch between vent and recirculated air but that's a very small inconvenience.

He charged me $55 for his time and I left a happy man back into the hot Texas sun.....

Did that affect the defrost, or did you lose that too?

Yes, when he pulled out that broken door it fixed the air flow problem everywhere. I can switch from front vents to defrost to floor with no issues. The only thing I cannot do now is switch between fresh air and recirculated air. Now I receive both all the time (no biggie).

I have the same problem with my '94 ZJ, with the air only coming out the deforst vent atop the dash.

I believe your problem is a vacuum leak causing the system to go into the default setting of defrost- blowing onto the windshield. Check for a cracked/broken/loose vacuum, or a crack/hole in the vacuum canister.
Or it could be a bad control switch.
