Burning Smell
Hi all,
New here so be gental with me. I am the proud owner of a 4.0 97 Grand Cherokee Ltd with 112000 miles on her. I am starting to do some work to fix some of the problems I have found.
I have just replaced all the disks, pads, handbrake shoes and checked all the calipers for corrrect operation. The job went well and the brakes are all spot on. However why I did these in the first place is I have a slight rubbing noise from the rear or at least I thought it was. Its intermittent like a warped disc. When I get out there is a smell of burning coming from the rear axel it is really hard to locate what side it is. I am hoping its not a diff the car drives fine 4 wheel drive system works ok and it was fantastic in our recent snow. What do you think could it be a wheel bearing??
Any help you can give will be really appreciated
Paul
PS sorry about the spelling

did the burning smell come right after u did the brakes?
if so depending on the material it could be that.. otherwise it could be a caliper that has siezed up and the pad is rubbing on the rotor full time now..
the parking brake is not enguaged is it?

No the burning smell was there before. Thats one of the reasons I changed the brakes and discs. When I got out last night I think the smell is comming from the RH side rear but I cannot be 100% sure. As I have just done all the brakes all I can think of is a wheel bearing or a diff issue.
