Default burning smell??

Yesterday I noticed a slight burning smell when I got out of my 2001 GC with the 4.0, it smells like a hose burning or the smell when the emergence brake is on or dragging slightly but I checked the emergence brake and it's released asnd all the hoses appear to be ok.......... I added a frost plug block heater a couple weeks ago ( haven't use it yet ), I'm only mentioning that in case it's something one of you experienced.

Any ideas what I should be looking for? It smells like it again this morning once I got to work ( Only a 10 mile drive )

Thanks in advance.

You probably need to grease your caliper pins. I have had the same problem with my WJ and that was what the problem was. The front calipers are the most likely to be the ones because of the dual pistons.

HEY RIZ! It's important to apply grease to the inside of the bushings when you do it. Otherwise, when you install the pins, the grease gets wiped off them and left on the outside of the bushings.

I ran over some freshly tarred roads once and the tar got caught up inside the brakes of my 94 ZJ and smoked and smelled horrid until I figured out what it was. It will diminish with time.

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee and need to replace the fan speed switch. Your probably smelling the circuit board behind the switch heating up or the wiring inside that switch panel and its just blowing around the cab as your driving. I know mine is bad and will be replacing it soon with a used one and at times I smell it heating up from resistance behind the switch.

I will be recieving a new blower motor resistor today since my fan only blows on the highest setting. I wondered if that might be it too?

That's a definite possibility. If the fan rattles on low when it's cold outside, the bearings are shot and it will draw too many amps, causing the burnout of the resistor. That's what happened to mine.

I replaced the blower motor resistor yesterday so now I have all my fan speeds back, now we'll see if it fixes the other issue. The old resistor broke apart during removal. I knew I was fixing the right part.
