Broken exhaust pipe on 99 grand Cherokee

So I had 2 exhaust leaks and I was driving home one night and one of them decided they wanted to upgrade to completely snapped so now my muffler is hanging off. What’s the best plan of action? Can I just buy some pipes and clamps and fix it that way?

Looks like it is all slip on. Also looks like you have a fair amount of pipe on the cat still. How solid is it?
Muffler side looks shorter. Solid enough and have enough pipe there?
Auto parts store should have shorter pieces of straight pipe. If the OD on both the muffler side and cat side are the same just get one with the ID being the same.
If they are different OD auto parts stores also sell ones that are different sizes at both ends.
Cut to length, slip both sides in, couple muffler clamps in the right size and thinking you are good. Won't look pretty but should work.
Maybe replace the muffler and rig it up?

It looks like the muffler case is pretty well rotted as well. Why not just fix it right? My mechanic has his own pipe bender and installed a Flowmaster 50 and tailpipe for me at a very reasonable cost. It sounds very mellow without being harsh. That's on my 4.0 BTW. He used HD pipes and welded everything.

I agree with Dave. If money is a concern you could go to a shop and get a free quote and then go from there.

In high school I had a rusted exhaust and spent tons of time trying muffler tape and all sorts of band aid approaches with limited or temporary sucess. thinking back it was not worth it and should have done it right in the first place.
