4whl part time is for mud. locks tighter full time is for wet streets has some give to it

Hold on, gentlemen! My understanding of the 242 t-case is that part-time 4wd was connected through a differential in the t-case and full-time 4wd was a direct lockup to send power to both axles equally. Am I wrong or what? If I am right, using fulltime without a certain amount of slippage would be harmful to the driveline. I am going with my oppinion until I find out differently.

Do the quadratrac and selectrac use the same front axle or does the selectrac have a servo that disengages the axles in the front diff when in 2 wheel drive?

If so can you use a selectrac transfer case without the corresponding front diff?

I have a spare (actually 2) selectrac case but my zj currently has a quadratrac and does the binding hopping dance on dry pavement when turning sharp.

Default front end hop

I also have a quadratrac, I also had the same problem. The problem was in the transfer case. I had lost a seal. I made the mistake of puttin in the
wrong oil. I finally put in the right oil and a bottle of slip oil from
the jeep dealer. It is best to use the slip oil from the dealer, its a small
bottle and doesn't cost that much. It took about 4 months before it stopped hopping, but now it turn just like a two wheel drive car, I hear
and feel nothing.

You've got it mixed up, the part-time locks both axles while the full-time is like an all-wheel drive you can drive on the streets without binding.

So could I try changing the fluid in the transfer to get it to stop binding on pavement?

Listen to this guy. I did the same thing.. posted a question.. everyone said my VC was toast.. found out my front suspension skid plate was bent from the previous owner.. so when I turned right or left it binded like crazy.. but found out it was the sterring bar rubbing against the bent skid plate. I found this out after I bought my 231 for a swap... As it was explained to me by a jeep guy.. Our 249 TC is full time 4wd, not AWD.. it does drive like its in 4 wheel drive when you turn full left or full right... because it IS in 4WD. It probably won't ever turn like a car. Try your fluids bro, maybe it will smooth things out. I haven't read every post but I'm sure not everyone on here has a Zj with a TC or viscous coupling problem. Good luck hope you find out the problem!!

94 ZJ 5.2 stock as they come 249J transfer case 243,000 miles..

Be sure and add the bottle of slip fluid from your jeep dealer or it will
still hop. I don't know what it's called but the guy in jeep parts will know what you are talking about. Its a small bottle app. 8 oz. but it works.

Bought a bottle of this stuff last night. 4oz bottle was $8.13 with tax. put it right in the rear diff....will be driving to NC from Ohio tomorrow, so we'll see how that does.
