tranny prob

Default tranny prob

hey everyone... im buying a 96 zj with the 4.0tomaro for a project wheeling machine... the kid im buyen it from said it doesnt downshift from third to second unless u manually shift it. i was told it could b the TCM. will the tcm out of a 96 xj cherokee work on the 96 zj. and any other hints on what the prob could b?

and what does it do once you slow down? stall? downshift in 1st?
register the kick down cable and it will be fine.
ah.. the TCM is the same.

the kid says it just doesnt shift down from 3rd unless u manually ****f it. i think he said it just keeps the revs up for 3rd gear .im gunna drive it tomaro but i dont want to waste my time if im gunna have to get a new tranny or somthin costly.

Sorry but the '96 ZJ doesn't have a Transmission Control Module. The transmissions functions are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module on '96 and later ZJ's. The '95 and earlier models used a separate TCM.

so would the trans prob b from the powertrain control module or somthing else?
