Default Axle choices

Ok. So I looked through all 27 pages on the GC thread and did a search, but I could not find anything related.
My question is what kind of options does a ZJ runner have as far as axles are concerned. I would like to get rid of the c clip and make f/r axles the same if possible I would like to stay away from major remodeling and reconstruction if at all possible. I would also like to know how reliable these other options are. I love my 30/35 set-up but I don't know that I want to spend 1k+ getting lockers and better gears if there are better and more reliable axles out there.
Any insight and help would be appreciated.
P.S. I have heard about the Ford 8.8 swap but have not looked far into it.

Thanks for the link seed! There is a plethora of info there. I haven't found what I'm looking for yet, but I have just barely started looking.

I think I have seen what I will be building toward. Four wheeler just had an article on it. The kept the D30 and did an outers conversion to the D40. The also put an Eaton locker and some other cool things, but it looks like its about what I am looking for. Here is a link to their build http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...rts/index.html

Read that article VERY carefully.... There are BIG mistakes in the first 3 paragraphs....

00-01 XJ's came with a Low Pinion axle not a Hi Pinion one. Also not all pre-91 D30's had Vacuum disconnects. Any XJ that was equipped with the full-time transfer cases had no vacuum disconnect. Also the early models(up to 95) had the smaller X-260 u-joints rather than the X-297 joints in the later ones.
