Alarm going off while driving, HELP!

Hi! I was hoping someone could help me.
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V8 4X4.

First off my FOB key doesnt work anymore, it shorted out a while ago, but i keep it on my keychain anyways. Just a pre-statement.

Today I got in my jeep, I didnt lock it today, the car started just fine, so i started driving for about a minute and half everything was fine. Then my Alarm started going off ( while driving), The horn was honking, flashers flashing, the whole nine yards!
I preceeded to pull over, and try to manually unlock my car through the inside door locks, that didnt work.
I turned off my car and restarted it, since usually when it goes off as im getting in, (after unlocking from the outside) it usually stops the alarm, That didnt work.
I tried my FOB key ( hopelessly even though i know its broken), of course that didnt work.
I tried turning off and back on again, and nothing worked.
So eventually this is after 10 min of being on the side of the road, i start to drive home with the alarm still on.
after five minutes of driving, it stopped!

does anybody know what is going on?
From what i have read, the alarm systems are supposed to stop the engine from starting,as i turned off the car and was able to start it again multiple times, I just dont know what is going on.
Is there a way to disable the alarm?
or to Trouble shoot what it might be.

How embarrassing. I had my horn membrane break in my C5 vette. Dense traffic. Blaring horn. Dirty looks. Fingers.

Good times. :brickwall:

Okay, your WJ's key fob has a panic button on it, right? You can hit the panic button at any time and the lights will flash and the horn sound. This does not stop the car from running. The best thing to do is take the battery out of the fob because it's activating itself. The panic button is for attracting attention in a carjacking or assault situation.

I find sometimes my WJ does funny things if I lean up against something with the keys in my pocket or squeeze my fob against something else in my hand.

See that's the funny thing, my fob key doesn't work...at all.
I can press any key on it, And it won't respond.
Although just in case I will take out the battery. Thank you.
