Air intake tube options for 4.0...
 

I have been searching around, looking for ideas to replace the stock intake tube on my 04 WJ. K&N has a couple kits for the 4.0, but I don't know if I'm comfortable with buying something that has an open element, I just don't want that to worry with if I come across some deep water. But I also don't know if I'm any better off with my stock airbox in that regard.

I was ready to buy the Airaid Jr kit (Part # 310-727), but then realized it was for the 4.7, which Summit does not mention. Good thing I didn't order it! I took some measurements of the TB and air box outlet, and was trying to come up with a custom solution. I might be able to use some parts from work (I work for a company that builds engine & cab air precleaners for industrial vehicles & machinery, pretty handy huh?), and trying to hunt around for what else I may need.

Anyone have the Airaid Jr kit? Is that rubber coupling between the tube and the airbox molded as round on one end and oval on the other?

Does anyone know if the airbox for the 4.0 and 4.7 are identical?

Any other thoughts?

I have indeed. To clarify, my main concern was using something like that with the factory airbox, and since the outlet in the airbox lid is oval, the biggest challenge is finding something to connect a round intake tube to the oval outlet on the box. Maybe I'm over-thinking it...

After reading through it, I do remember seeing that thread once before!
