99wj strange down shifts and delayed overdrive
my 99 wj 4.0 has been shifting strange, under moderate acceleration once it has already shifted into 3rd it will shoot back down to 2nd for a second or 2 then back to 3rd, so its like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, quick back to 2nd, 3rd, overdrive.... kinda hard to explain also if it shifts out of overdrive on the highway it can take several seconds sometimes even 10 or 15 seconds before it goes back into overdrive, there are times I even have to let out of the throttle so much it I actually slow down 4 or 5 mph before it will go back in overdrive. any help would be great... Thanks!

Adjust your TV cable.. Engine off.. push in the D-shaped button and slide the cable housing all the way back in to the adjuster body. Release the button and twist your throttle to wide open position.. You'll hear the adjuster click a few times as you open the throttle. That's all there is to it. Test drive it.
During the test drive, if it still doesn't shift properly, at a constant speed, w/o letting off the gas, use your left foot to raise up on the brake pedal. The brake light switch not only turns on your brake lights, it also kicks the transmission out of overdrive and unlocks the torque converter. If out of adjustment (or broken) it can cause similar issues to what you described. Hopefully it's just the TV cable (throttle valve) adjustment. Here's a pic
