Default '99 JGC 6cyl AT model ? 42RE and 42RH

I have the above model JGC and i can't find out what differences there are between the two so I can order parts without making a mistake.
I have a slow 1-2 shift, sometimes making 2nd,then dropping back to1.
Jeep has 180,000 miles. Changed trans oil and filter, no metallic content in case,
just accumulated muck.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,Ringer

Thanks Dave,
Think changing the speed sensor and the output speed sensor, and the line pressure sensor
may help?
I am open to ideas. Thanks again!

I'm trying to stay neutral on transmission advise because I really have no experience with jeeps and may tell you something that's not true. I have lots of experience with GM's Turbo-Hydromatic, and some symtoms are similar, but maybe not. All I can tell you is the 1-2 shift is controlled by the TV cable and governor pressure.

Any codes? Most common problem with that kind of mileage is going to be governor pressure sensor and solenoid. I would change them as well as the output speed sensor first. If there was a lot of metal in the pan, or heavy metallic than its probably too late. These units don't pump fluid in park so whe nthey sit overnight or for extended periods and then run the converters are down on fluid. Very common that the converter starts to eat its self and contaminates the rest of the unit. If its fine silver/brassy metal that's probably what it is.

One thing I've done with mine is on initial start-up, I shift to neutral and allow the trans pump to pressurize the system for a minute or two before I put it in gear. It seems to help a lot when it's really cold outside.
