Question 99 Jeep laredo keeps dying, please help!!!

I have a 99 jeep grand Cherokee laredo. 4.0L, 6 cylinder. Driving in town, stop and go traffic, the jeep spudders and then dies. It takes about 3 mins. to start up again but it runs rough until it gets up to speed again. This is constantly happening and I can't drive it without pulling over everytime I stop. Driving on the highway is fine and it runs great, just until I slow down to 5 mph or so, it just doesn't stay ideling. I plugged in the check engine scanner and it came up with PO340 and P1391, camshaft position sensor A - bank 1 circuit malfunction, and manufacturer control ignition system or misfire. Can anyone please help me with figuring this issue out,and what I need to do to replace it. I need my vehicle to provide for my family. Thank you very much.

I would change the camshaft position sensor...clear the codes and see if they come back. 4.0's are notorius for cps failures...then see if the codes pop up agian

Had a similar problem after swapping in a new engine to the Mrs WJ. Anytime i would touch the accerater it would get the same codes.

First i would try the "toothpick" method of adjusting the cam sensor located in what was a distributor, do you have a factory service manual? The procedure might also be detailed in a Haynes or Chiltons also.

I'd try that first since it costs nothing but some time.

I've actually heard of the WJ Grands having problems with the neutral safety switch. It sometimes prevents them from starting or lets them start up but then they'll just die.
