99 grand cherokee limited tranny problems
I just got this grand Cherokee. It's got the 4.0 motor and auto. trans.. It runs great and basically no problems except one. The tranny slips occasionally. It could be while cruising down the freeway or around town. It doesn't seem to do it at certain times. And when I'm stopped and starting off, it always wants to start off in 2nd gear. The chick I bought it from warned me that it may need a tranny. But if anyone has any pointers I'd like to try them first. Thanks

Welcome to CF!
First thing is check to make sure the fluid is full. Check it hot in NEUTRAL, not park. It makes a difference, as much as 1 quart. Check the color to see if it's burnt. Next, check the trans throttle cable for proper adjustment. Look in any good manual or YouTube videos. Beyond that, get it checked by a professional. One you trust NOT to tell you you need a new transmission. |
Mine did the same thing and doing a Transmission Pan Service fixed the problem (NOT A FLUSH). Trans Fluid was a little low as well.
