I bought this Grand Cherokee with 170k miles on it a couple of days ago with the 4.7l engine. I am getting a check engine light. The code p1698 which means Engine control Module (ECM) unable to communicate with Transmission Control Module (TCM). The overdrived light will come on when key is turned to the on position along with all the other idiot lights. All my gauges work. When driving if I push the overdrive button the light will not illuminate. However I can feel it shift in and out of overdrive when I press the button. At first I was going to buy a new TCM but decided to hold off on that. I made previous thread but no one responded. Someone suggested a relay but I do not see any relays for the transmission only in the manual. I do see a fuse and that fuse looked good but I changed it anyway. Any ideas? I am taking it in today for a diagnostic. I need to get it fixed so I can pass emissions.

Its fixed. A pin was not making contact with a connector. Dealership fixed the pin no charge. Just paid for diagnostic and car rental. Glad I did not buy any parts for it
