i have a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0. Daughter was driving it, as it is her vehicle, was coming off interstate and it started sputtering as she stepped on the gas, then overheated and shut off. some guys checked it out, said she was low on coolant, i went to get her and try to drive it home, well it ended up on tow truck. have changed the thermostat, waterpump, radiator( it has a crack) and the fan relay as it didnt seem to be coming on. seem like the over heating may be stopped, if i could get the darn air pockets out of it but have not drove it but once since it was done Thursday, kinda scared! it has been running rough since, started it this morning to try to get the air out again and white smoke came out of exhaust for about 10 min after i started it. if you rev the engine it sputters, not a smooth like should be. idles rough...went back out to start it again, no smoke but runs horrible. did she toast the engine? there is no water in the oil i know that much. any help would be appreciated, really worried this isnt good!

Sounds like a blown head gasket at the very least. A compression check will confirm if it is blown.
