98 zj AC Compressor
My 98 straight 6's ac compressor is squeeling...not at all times..but here just recently it has started...it squeels and it is actually killing the jeep, making it idle really low...question is what is the best thing to do?? Buy a reman compressor with the clutch and everything. or should i replace the clutch and the bearings?
I saw a few kits on ebay, and didn't know how hard the bearings and clutch was to change out or if it was even worth it? Changing the compressor sounds like a pain, loosing freeon and all...just didn't know how hard/if it was worth changing out the bearing and the clutch?

You can get a complete compressor with a new clutch for about 200 bucks. I would recommend having a shop do the job because they have the proper equipment to do the job correctly.

I have buddies that do ac all of the time...i know they are new for 200, really not wanting to spend that much...reman is 100 bucks off ebay, or a clutch/bearing is 70 bucks...and you don't have to loose freon or anything. just didn't know if it was worth doing or not... i have to order a trac bar on top of this i really don't want to spend 400 between the 2.

If there is a drain on the engine only when the A/C is ON it's not the clutch, it's the compressor. Chances are pretty good there will be a bunch of metal and junk in the system that will clog the oriface tube and ruin the new compressor.

Well if the clutch locks up, it's going to cause issues with the serpentine belt burning up/slipping off, resulting in nothing turning the water pump. Overheating and possible engine damage will result if not caught in time.
Fix it while you can is my suggestion.
