so, when I got my 98 the entire rear liftgate was on the electrical fritz. The lift glass button wasn't working, nor was the defrost, the lic plate lights and the rear wiper. I checked the fuses and found nothing blown. I assumed since the lic plate lights were out it was due to an electrical problem in the liftgate. finally in my last ditch effort I decided to put new lights in the lic plate sockets. they were blown. once I put new blubs in everything started working! the wiper is slow, but it does work. the lift glass button pops everytime and the lights work.

does Jeep treat the lic plate blubs as a fuse to complete the circuit in the liftgate? really strange how everything started working.
