98 Grand Cherokee limited

98 Grand Cherokee limited
Just bought this with 84K miles and noticed a whine above about 20 mph that momentaily goes away if I lift up on the accelerator but comes back even decelleratibg with no gas. Any one have any ideas?

Sounds like your pinion bearings. Check the axles where the drive-shafts go in to see if they're wet. If so the seal is shot also. JMO

I agree with ol'blue,most likely your rear end. It is fairly common for the D44 to start having some issues around 100k,mine did,and the "whine" is consistent with that.
