98 Grand Cherokee Laredo fuse 16
Previous owners pulled fuse #16, which controls all interior lighting and hood lights. I put a new fuse in the slot, and all the lights turn on, which you can't turn off.
Only way to disable the interior lights is pulling the fuse, which is a minor inconvenience. Help? |
Take a look at the little switches on the back of the two front door key locks, as well as the ones on the hatch and lift glass. They fail and the bcm thinks you are unlocking the door. The lights stay on the battery drains and the alarm wont set. This is advice for the grand cherokee but I see your profile says you have the xj. Probably similar anyhow.

The back hatch doesn't unlock, nor does the window when you hit the unlock button.
It was previously stolen, and I had to replace the ignition cylinder. I don't have the door keys... I've never been able to unlock the back hatch. |

I even called the local police department to see if it was stolen when I bought it. Not currently stolen.

You dont need the door keys to open up the inside of the door and check or disconnect the switches. You can buy replacement locks and switches on ebay cheap enough, or get the switches at the junkyard. Ive even repaired them which takes some patience.
I think you can break into the back hatch and open it also, and replace that lock and switch. Is the the zj or the xj? As for it being previously stolen, that I can't help you with. |
It's just a grand Cherokee Laredo. I don't know any other designations.
|
Then it's the ZJ. The XJ was the Cherokee sans Grand.

It would help immensely if you changed your user profile so we know what you're driving.
