what do you need a 6" lift for anyways?

I just got the jeep and its my first?? Super cheep with a toast motor. Im a ford guy. I think the lift is either a 6" or 4.5??? SHORT ARM!! Id bet its a 4.5 cause the 33s on it are to big in my opinion??? Just need to get this thing somewhat drivable?? It wanders really bad, to the point that it feels like its gonna start jerking back and forth out of control??? Im guessing an alignment would go along way?? Also have a nasty vibration out of the front end?? The pinion from the front axle has some excessive movement and I was thinking I would replace the crush sleve???
