Default 96 jeep grand cherokee door switch help

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Jeep. I am not a mechanic and I've not been able to find helpful videos online on my situation. I have a few things I need to do but this one is the most annoying at the moment.

The drivers side door (well none of them actually) will not lock or unlock any of the other doors (except for the hatch).

The windows seem to go up and done from the master switch and at each door.

With this said when you hit the button to lock and unlock you get the noise as if it worked but nothing happens except for the rear hatch.

What I need is some help in figuring this out or how to figure out what the issue is.

I don't know how to test it to see if its the switch or some other problem and after a disaster with a duster many years ago I always worry of working on anything electrical (long story short I killed my 76 duster or at least thought I did, ended up being a 30 dollar fuse I blew somewhere under the dash). Mainly because I don't know how to fix electrical issues at all if I mess something up.

So if someone could let me know how to diagnose the issue, with pictures, links, videos would be great.

Thank you

Ryan

Can you move the internal locking slides by hand? If not, you'll have to remove the door panels and lube everything. If you can hear the solenoids working, it's a jamming issue.

Hello Dave1123

Yes you can lock and unlock each door manually. Yes I can hear the solenoids working or trying to work, but the only door that locks and unlocks is the rear hatch.

Would it still be a jamming issue since none of the four doors lock or unlock by the switch. Would one doors jamming issue cause the problem on the others?

If it needs to be lubed, what would I be looking for to lube up? Sorry I just don't know what i should look for since they all lock and unlock manually and don't seem to be hard to do so.

Beats me, dude. If they work fine manually, the latch mechanisms are probably all right. Are you hearing the door solenoids working or just the hatch? Do they lock with the key fob?

Hello Dave1123

I believe I am hearing the door ones, if for no other reason when I get up to 15-20mph it does its auto lock which you can hear it go off but it don't lock the doors.

As for the key fob I do not have a key fob for the vehicle. Once I get the door issue fixed I have my old jeeps fob I can get programed for it or buy a couple of new ones.

Well, I've never had the doors apart on a jeep, but if the solenoids are working but not locking, there may be connecter links from the solenoids to the door latches that have broken. That's the only thing I can suggest.
