96 jeep Cherokee 2.5l engine blown

I want to get my jeep running again could someone tell me what my options are to replace it. Oh yeah I'm poor as dirt so try to keep that in mind.

96 jeep Cherokee had 2.5l i4 manual transmission.

Car-part.com inventory of every salvage yard in the US and prices/mileage/condition etc of the engine . Craigslist you might find a rusty XJ for less than 500 bucks see it a lot here that runs fine .

This might be a stupid question

I have literally everything from a 96 Lincoln town car except the frame is there anyway that would work in the jeep without a bunch of crazy modification.

That would be pretty silly honestly if you ask me . Swapping out your engine is simple and straightforward no reason to change it up imho !

I figured it was a bad idea Ill just sell the Lincoln parts and use the money for my jeep.

what is wrong with your jeep?

Engine rebuild kits are $500, and as long you have all your seals and parts you should be able to dismantle and reassemble in one weekend

Are we talking a knock or a thrown rod? If it's knocking you have options, some of them are cheapish.

Cheaper to buy used and way faster . Telling someone they can rebuild there old worn out engine for 500 bucks for the cost of a rebuild kit isn’t true in 99 percent of cases. Machine work can cost more than that rebuild kit if need be , having the head rebuilt or machined and rebuilding it can be costly as well . Add a crank , rods , Etc etc into the mix and it adds up real fast . I’ll take a used factory built engine over a rebuild any day of the week and I install rebuilds every week of the year ... I’m not going to go into bashing the rebuilder were forced to use by contract but they put out engines that should never have been assembled and assembled with the cheapest parts humanly possibly . It is not uncommon for them to be loud and burning oil from day one ... all be it with a warranty lol
