96 Grand Cherokee Laredo will not idle
Hey gang new here and need some help. I have a 96 GCL with a 318 in it and it doesn't want to kick into high idle when started cold. It was fine all summer long until recent weeks when temps dropped to 30 degrees or less. I though maybe the TPS was bad so I spent $50.00 on a new on and that didn't make a difference. Next was the research that lead to the ECU being bad. Well I bought a reman unit and then things got worse. The CG would start and shut right off I couldn't even hold my foot on the gas to keep it going like I could with my original computer. So either the one I got was programmed wrong or my computer is fine. Either way the new ones going back. If I do keep the jeep running for about ten minutes it will then hold idle after it warms up. Any ideas on the problem guys?? What do I need to look at or replace.

The proble is with the idle air control motor. Put the old PCM back in and replace the IAC motor in the throttle body.

Thanks guys, I already put the old comp back in. Hell it at least starts with it in. Little help on the IAC location? Is it the part that is in the back of the TB.

I found it on the back side and pulled it out.....man what a mess. I cleaned off the plunger with thinner and then moved to the hole which was a bit harder to do but after about three dozen thinner soaked Q-tips I think I got it all cleaned out. I put the old unit back it and though I think it still needs to be replaced it did run better. I'll grab a new unit this week after our Spokane area snow storm passes. I think we are on the right track here.

Oops, Yeah, it's on the back side. I'm sick and these meds are kicking my ****. Sorry for the misinformation. I was looking at a pic of the map sensor.
