95' V8 a/c not working

I have a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited V8, which the a/c is not working I have checked fuses and relays all are good. (I swapped the ABS relay with the a/c relay no change in either one) I used a can of refrigerant from AutoZone and the gauge is in the charged area. I know that the once the compressor kicks on the reading will go way down, but the compressor is not engaging. there is no audible "click." I can turn the center of the pulley by hand which means the compressor is not frozen? This tells me that its either a sensor or the signal is not getting to the compressor to tell it to engage.

I have 2 wires coming from the compressor that look a little shady. 1 White, the other black. The white wire leaves the comressor and continues to a small harness where it connects to another wire, then disappears into a bundle of wires. The black wire is only about 6 inches long it leaves the compressor and is screwed in to the compressor mount (some one grounded this wire, I can tell this is not a factory ground).

Any ideas? is there a way to test the sensor and wires? Where are these wires, that come off of the compressor, supposed to go?

Jump the low pressure switch and see if the compressor kicks on.

Where is the low pressure switch and how do I jump it?

It's on the accumulator, on pass. side behind the PDC. Use alligator clips and wire to jump the connector in the harness after unplugging it.

K, I will give it a try.

You know where it's at don't you? If not I can send you a PM showing you. Let me know.

finally got time to try jumping, when I jump the switch the a/c turns on, I replaced it and now the compressor makes a horrible noise. I am assuming that it is bad. The question is, is it something I can rebuild or do I need to fork the money for a new one

Mine acted alot like that when it was low on freon, had a split hose. Thats why the pressure switch shuts it off. I tried to add like you and the supplied guage was also telling me it was full. Anyway I had it died and found the leak, had a shop replace the hose and have been running cool all summer now. Cost me some money but thats just the way it goes sometimes. At least I got it fixed the first time. To mee AC systems are no place to parts swap.
