I just bought a 94 limited for $250 kid said the tranny was out. I have another tranny lined up but the one that is in it acts weird. When i put it in to drive or reverse when cold it will jump forward or backward then the motor dies does anyone know anything about this?

sounds maybe like the torque converter is bagged and is locked up. would act like a standard if you dropped the clutch.

thanks i have heard when the TC goes out it messes up the tranny too is this right???

Most of the time, yes, sometimes no. You have to take it out any way, so just replace them both. My 95 is doing this as well, but not yet this bad. My converter sometimes is softer then cheeze, but will lock up solid randomly. My trans is done, so Im just replacing them both. Hell of a job though, my trans is absurdly heavy!

well i changed the filter it weighed like 5 pounds full of junk, and changed the fuild and now its drives around fine

i am having a tranny problem as well. believe first gear is gone starts in 3rd gear have to shift down to 2nd to even start rolling. wont downshift automatically either any suggestions on whats wrong?

that's great, and I would suggest that you do a battery disconnect. The TCM learns the shift point pressure values over time so when ever you service the trans (i.e. fluid and filter, adjust low/reverse band )these values will change but the TCM will not know this and you could end up with harse shifts or even soft shifts.
Battery disconnect can be done with a scanner is you have one or know someone with one, or you can disconnect the battery terminals and touch the two together for a minute and this will clear all the PCM/TCM memory data forcing the computers to relearn, however when doing the battery terminal trick you sometimes end up with rough idle, and hard starting for a day or two until the new values are learned.
