94 Grand Cherokee L6 4x4 Crankshaft Slides foward
I just bought a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee and noticed that the belt was chewed up on one side. I replaced the belt and then it started squeeking. When further inspecting it I noticed that when i rev the engine the whole crank shaft along with the harmonic balance slides foward. I verified this by turning the engine off and pushing it foward with a pry bar. My local mechanic said I need a new engine. Can someone enlighten me on what is realy going on?

My cousin's did this a few years back and the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer was loose. We tightened it and it's still running.

if the harmonic balencer bolt is loose then tighten it. but the crank has "thrust wasers" on a bearing cap that hold it stationary. if the crank is in fact moving then yes you need a new engine. or tear your's apart and rebuild...
But check the bold. easy and free.
