From the research I have done 3.5" is the magic number to not go above for short arms. You will have to do a SYE and lengthen the drive shafts at this height.
If you are going with a long arm you can safely go higher I have seen reports of 8" lifts working great. Pricey though
Right now I have a 2" BB and didn't have to change a thing besides putting the pucks in. When I put 31's on I had to cut out some plastic on the front which was no big deal at all and you can't tell a thing unless you look for it.

Have you looked at this kit? http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=ZLK
31's on cragar 8's fit great w/ this kit. Shouldn't need any trimming, you can keep your stock arms, and really not much need for a regear. Only thing I would have done differently when I put this kit on was to upgrade and get the 3.5" lift rear springs also. Even w/ V8 springs in the rear it still didn't even out. Had to add 3/4" spacers in the rear to level it. There are plenty of kits out there but do some searching around and listen to what everyone has to say about each b/4 you buy.

It all depends on your usage. Being that you live in Wisconsin I am assuming that your primary use for this is daily driving. If this is so the vibrations will be transferred much more in to the unibody. The reason for this is that the control arms going more vertical as you lift. For instance hitting railroad tracks or a pot hole will not only loosed your fillings but send the vehicle into a wobble . This is one of the primary reasons why death wobble is caused by so many other factors. It make the little things add up to cause bigger problems. IMO
You may not have any troubles with 4.5", and I do not know from first hand experience just what my research is telling me. Check out www.kevinsoffroad.com Kevin is one of the most knowledgeble people that I have found to date on GC's

IMO I would stick with the 3.5" From what I have also heard to stay away from some of the big names because their springs are so stiff and make the ride crappy. There are some kits that just swap the front springs to the rear, but I don't know that much about them.
