92 Cherokee Knocks/rattles.. some times.. it's got a |6 201,712Miles
Auto Trans 4WD the only time i hear it is when i'm at idle but it''s quite loud. i just bought it 3 days ago. i used vacuum hose and listened around while it was in park idling and the noise sounds like it's coming from rite between the back of the engine and the trans. or in that general area. some times it will idle and sound find then some rattling then back to a nice idle. is there a known issue? this thing HAS to be up and running reliably in the next couple of weeks. long story short... divorce wife taking the car. i have to get to work in the jeep.

It sounds like you have a cracked flex plate(flywheel). It could be just loose torque convertor bolts as well. There is an inspection plate that you could remove and check the flew plate.....u will need a flash light to look up and see if it is cracked.

Could be the Catalytic converter. Mine made a hell of a racket. Got the cat replaced and now no rattles.
