I have had some rear axle thoughts for some time. I have a D35 under the ZJ now, with 3.73s. I've been considering a switch to 4.10s since I've changed tire sizes and feel like I've lost some power. I had considered a swap to an aluminum 44, but it has 3.73s. And had had its brackets moved for use under a TJ.

I also have a XJ 82.5" with 4.10s I was going to swap into my Ranger project... But since it has the gearing I want, and is stronger than the D35, AND I already have it in the shed... Might as well get it under the ZJ. So I need to put all new brackets on it. And my 35s disc brakes will bolt right on, with a little grinidng of the backing plates...

Anyone else have a 8.25" under their ZJ?

And yes, I am going to put 4.10s in the front too. I have a HP D30 housing To use for that though. I got a bare housing to put new balljints and such into...

I think you should do the swap. You've already got the 8.25, and it's probably stronger than the D44A anyway. JMO

I think I'll go ahead and plan to do this then. It makes sense. I have it on hand, it is stronger than what I have, has the gearing I want to use... Now I just have to get a couple other projects out of the way so I can get to my HP D30 buildup...

I was just wondering if someone else had done a 8.25 swap into a ZJ.
