I have a 95 GC 5.2, It normally stays at 210 winter summer, heat on ac on doesn't matter.
Its now going up to about 230-235 but not overheating. It also has started to run rough at start up (not the first start up, usually the 4-5 start up of the day after the engine is warm).
Plenty of fluid, Don't know if its coincidence but it started about 4-1/10 which is the same time I think they switch over the gas formula in Maryland.
Just want to check any simple ideas before I take it to the shop.

I've had my '97 ZJ w/5.2L V8 for a few years now and haven't seen the symptoms your describing.
Since yours is a '95 it has the EGR system and that might be a cause of your temp problem. Or check for a vacuum leak. Usually a lean condition will cause it to run hot. JMO
And Welcome to CF!

I'm not familiar with code 19. It's not on my list. Sorry.Originally Posted by mcfun61
thanks, don't know if its a red herring but by doing the code trick I came up with 19, standby voltage out of limits??

i had a similar problem.. back flush the radiator, and pressure wash out the front of the radiator. i am running straight glycol, no water, and it works fine. you just can't let em sit and idle for long periods... it even says that in my owners manual. if you have to, then pop the hood and let some of the heat escape. hope it helps you out

I strongly advise against this. Running a colder t-stat will affect the PCM, the emission equipment, and it will give a code for that also. These trucks are very sensitive to what equipment you use on them and whether they're hooked up correctly or not. Originally Posted by trucker

I'm running a 180* t-stat in mine. Love it for the summer but next winter I am swapping in a 195! After doing the ignition upgrade and the Jet chip I noticed higher temps then I liked. At the time it already had a new rad and fresh coolant. So I dropped in a 180*. I know normal temps are ~210* for these ZJs but mine was ~230* and when pulling a trailer with two ATVs on it put me up around 250* I dropped in the 180*. Pulling that same trailer and ATV combo ran me about 220* around town and 190* on the highway.

I have 180 and my temp, driving around town never get more that 190. I live in Jacksonville,Fl. I worked as car mechanic from 1992 to 2000 and most of overheating engine come to shop because of thermostat "hung-up".
I always let my engine to worm up before driving. That save a fuel and engine. The problem with electric gauges are that when the temp. shows high or engine light come on, it is mostly too late. I have manual gauges added to know what it is really going on with my engine.
