Default 4 wheel drive question

With winter approaching, I want to make sure all is well and operational with the 4 wheel drive system on our 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo.

My question to all of you is, what should I check prior to actually trying the system out? Are there any fluids that should be replaced?

This particular Jeep has approx. 75K miles on it and I am the second owner so I want to make sure everything works properly.

If it matters, it has the NV242 Selec-Trac transfer case as near as I can figure.

Thanks

i would recommend a full 4wd service. You can do it yourself, change the fluids in the diffs, the transfer case and even the tranny, put a new filter in the tranny while you are at it.

You will need about 9 quarts of ATF+4 , 5 or 6 for the tranny and 2 for the transfer case, 4 quarts of diff fluid, I run synthetic Royal purple in both of mine 75w140, a tube of rtv, and a tranny filter. Should take you maybe 3 hours to do them all.

I was thinking about doing that stuff anyway, it is just a matter of getting the cash to do it. I just wanted to see if there was anything else I should look at.
