4 time 4 wheel to part time question
2 Attachment(s)
I have a 95 grand cherokee w/ all time 4 wheel drive, had a u joint bind up in my yolk and busted my t case in half, I was wondering what all it took to put a different t case in it to run 2 wheel on the road and such, thanks for any help!

If it were mine, I'd find a 242 Selectrac. It's probably the most simple and versitile unit out there. Somebody else chime in and tell him about spline count and driveshafts, please.
OUCH!!! pictures don't look good! |
242 you need to shorten the drive shaft since you are using the older ZJ 95 and under. From what i heared anyway,
Btw that picture is ****in awsome.. I dont think i have ever seen a Tcase actually split in half like that lol. |
Do a thread search using "Transfer case swaps" and find out what you'll need to do. Go for it!

Its how a simple popping can cause you a damage like this one... The carnage looks real serious..

yeah haha i know, I've found some good write ups, such as this one...
http://kevinsoffroad.com/techarticle...-242_swap.html But my only question is, do I need to grab the 4 wheel drive shifter itself from a junk yard to select the the different options as mine only has 4 H, N and 4 L? |
bump, 4x4 selector question? :(
|
IMO it's a good idea. Someone else driving your jeep would be lost without knowing what's up.

Do any of you guys know what it would take to have the 2 wheel option as far as the selector? Hoping to make some headway quick, it's a pain with my work hours and I have to get some work done to it

you want a 242 or 231 t case, 231 is stronger but the 242 has the full time 4 wheel drive option. You have a 95 so you will need a mid 94 or later t-case. you have a long input shaft so you will need to swap it into whichever case you get because the 249 is the only case that was put behind the V8, which uses a longer input shaft. Its pretty easy, just confusing at first, you will reuse the shift lever that you use with your current t-case. you will have to swap speedo gears to get the speedometer to work correctly. also try to get the driveshaft from the case you get, you may or may not be able to use your current driveshaft- 2/3 times i used the same one. get a GOOD pair of snap ring pliers, you will need them. also you need a case with a 23 spline input shaft, dont get one that has a 21 spline. hmmmm... i may be forgetting some things. PM me for more questions and id be glad to help you out
