Default 4.7 engine swap

Working on a friend's 2005 grand Cherokee 4.7 bad motor. Going this weekend to pick up used engine. My choices are this 03 dakota, 04 dakota, and 06 dakota. I believe dakota changed to 32 tone ring mid 2002. The 03 dakota has least miles but the 06 dakota is closer to me. Am I right thinking those motors will drop right in as long as they have the same 32 teeth tone ring?

I believe the newer 4.7s had revisions to fix the oil starvation to the head issues . Might check that !

Also they upped the horsepower in 02 I think. In 08 they went to dual spark plugs and upped he hp again to 310

That's an internal revision right? All engines run good. The 03 lower miles should work with the 2005 pcm and sensors as well as the 2006 right?

Going to go with the 06 dakota 4.7. According to my knowledge the dakota 4.7 didn't change until 2008?

From my quick search I believe any of the 3 would be the better engines with revisions . The later ones evidently had the “HO” intakes and made more power . Go with the one maintained the best !

Went with the 2004 dakota engine. Took about 2 hours to pull.

Awaiting transplant, the fun starts next weekend when I will begin removal of bad motor.
