Default 2006 mpg question. Thanks

Hello,

I just bought a 2006 JGC, 3.7l, AWD(calls it a 4x4?) for my family. No wheelin for this one, just camping and such on weekends, with space for the dog. it has 40,000 miles. I ditched my car for this.. we needed more space.

The little MPG reader on the dash says crazy low numbers like 13.4MPG when I drive around town. I admit its prolly the worst case senior for MPG. Lots of stop and go. when I jump on the highway and reset it, it it like 19-22 mpg at around 70mph.

Is this bad? or normal for this kind of daily driving?

Yeah, city/stop-go driving is a MPG killer...It needs some good history to get an honest reading though just don't reset it for a long time and see what it averages out to. If you have a 5 speed try to coast to stop lights as much as is safe/possible.

Keep in mind you're driving a 5,000 lb vehicle around with a v8 engine and 15 mpg or so doesn't seem so bad anymore.

well if a comparison helps I drive a 2009 F-150 around town for work, its got a v8 and 2wd. It gets around 12mpg if I keep my foot off the floor. Our 4x4 of the same kind gets around 10. Now I know they are vastly different vehicles than your jeep. but you can get an Idea.

yeah, they arent very good. I have an 05 and that sounds about right for it. I was really hoping to get a little more. It does do better with mid grade though. I think its worth the difference, might want to try it out.

well, I guess that the price I pay. I'm starting to think I should have got the 4.7l. Well maybey mot. I dont need it at all, so anything the v6 saves is worth it...

89 hua? I thought the higher grade just burns slower. The manual says not to run higher grades. I am looking for long term life here.
