Default 2005 cherokee noise help!

I have a 2005 Cherokee and when I go over wwashboard roads I get a weird popping noise like a baseball cards in a bike tire. I tried to fix by putting in trannsfercase it was no help. It's like I can feel it in the back seat, it goes away if I stop and go again help!

Your first problem is that you have a car that doesn't exist lol. They stopped production in 2001 for the Cherokee until recently in 2014. But if by chance you are talking about a Grand Cherokee, could be a number of things from loose bolts on suspension to your shocks being over extended. It could also be just because its a jeep and not a Porsche and aren't known for smooth rides. Hope this helps.

You do not understand what I mean. A grinding thumping noise happens. Something similar to a chain hop in a transfercase. It sounds like something slips out of place. If I put it in reverse and then go forward. Thegrinding stops. No need for a dick comment

It was just a little light humor man relax, I'm trying to help. It could be your drive shaft isn't balanced. That would explain why when you stop and go it goes away, and why it starts when you go over a bump.

For the record, the Cherokee never stopped being produced. American production renamed it the Liberty possibly for patriotic reasons. Outside America it was the Cherokee and was badged as such

Sir, or Madam:

What country are you in?

We need to know if it's a Grand Cherokee or Cherokee.

Is English your first language?

I ll help answer the questions for her.

It's a madam, and she's obviously not a resident of America, the greatest country on earth, and English definitely is not her first language!

Cheers, mate

Yeah, 2 of 195 countries...

The other 193 have had Cherokees since the 1970s.

Come on guys! Give the problem some thought and quit bashing on the poster. It would be a lot of help if we knew more about what vehicle we are talking about.

I'm guessing it's a grand cherokee because we are in the grand cherokee technical section. Thanks guys for all the knowledge I was unaware of all of that. For the longest time I thought the commander was the successor of the XJ. That's me th?e newbie. Now back to the problem. Do you think it could be motor mounts??

If it sounds like a thrashing machine it could be as simple as a u-joint failing. When you come to a complete stop it will bind as you begin to accelerate. As speed increases centrifugal force will cause it to travel out of round and thus the louder thrashing type noise. If the noise is that loud though you should be able to move the shaft back and forth more than normal.

Don't know if that helps but I hope it will. Trying to provide some sort of support
