2003 jeep Cherokee transmission problems!!!

hi. I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with about 200,000 miles on it. Today my jeep started up fine. I put it in reverse to leave and it went smoothly but when I shifted to drive it didn't do anything? Some advice would be great, so I could know what I'm looking for or any common troubleshooting I could before I take it to the shop! Please help!

I would not recommend a transmission shop yet. They will only want to replace or rebuild it for about $2,000.
Check the level of transmission fluid according to directions in owners manual. Healthy fluid will be red in color.
What engine/transmission? 4.0 Liter 6-cylinder/ 42re. Or 4.7Liter 8-cylinder /46
When reverse is lost on the 42re it is usually just a snap ring that has broken or come off.

Ripped off the Claytons link bridge/truss ...replaced with Artec 14 bolt and made a link bracket and increased vertical separation from under 8 to about 10 then cut some steel and made a link bridge tie to the diff cover the tube us 1.5 .250 wall the mounting tabs are a500 .500 thick plate with a grade 8 1 inch bolt in double shear...single shear rating is 94,000 ;-).
And made about 4 passes around the tubes this plus the diff and pinion ties should prevent spinning a tube. Will be finishing the back brace and pinion tie in next week .

That's the thread I rolled in from.

If you look at word association I've rolled into the thread that follows more than once.

EDIT: I literally did the same thing the guy above me did. Sorry, disregard!

I've spent the past couple days tinkering around with adding circuits to my PDC with varying amounts of success. Check the build for full details: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/pr...5/#post3511351

We got mud in the linkage of the work truck the other day and could not shift out of reverse. This issue can usually be solved by removing the mud with a long screwdriver.

Shifted to drive, it wouldn't do anything. Check the underside linkage 1st. Don't run yourself over!
There are internal solenoid packs, ($440 Cdn + install labour at dealership). Check your electrical plug connections onto the trans prior.
As above, insure fluid level (ATF4).
Filter and fluid change can't hurt a running trans. If the rubber gasket on pan is in place, it can be cleaned and reused if not torn or cracked.

That is a wicked truss!

Turn the key on-off-on-off-on, then wait for the gauges to do their self check and the warning lights to go out. the digital odometer will display any codes in the computer, There's a fair chance there is a code.
Also check the shift cable as mentioned, and try shifting it all the way to first and see if it goes into gear. Automagic"s are complex things, and the more complex something is, the more there is to go wrong.
