2001 JGC Limited Steering wheel grind
I bought this Limited and there is a load noise coming out of the steering wheel. It's not the usual power steering whine. You can feel it in the wheel. I have tried oiling the u-joints at the firewall and steering box but doesn't seem to help. Could it be the clock spring bearing or do I need to change the column to get rid of that grinding? It seems like its up near the wheel itself. I've seen the discussion on this before but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated. I might as well fix it while I have the dash off for the heater core and blend door repairs.

I have this issue with mine too. When you turn it feels and sounds like something is rubbing. A few people said that changing the diff oil works so I did that and while it did make it better, it didn't go away. After a few months, its pretty much as worse as it was before I did that.
I too would love to find out what this really is and how to fix it!

Column noise
I'm doing the heater core so I will be removing the steering column so I will remove and replace the clock spring mechanism as well as try lubing all the joints in the column. Hopefully that will work. I will update this when done. The dif oils are all changed on mine as well but that doesn't fix the problem.

steering noise
Well all done the heater core, evaperator core and the blend doors. Changed the clock spring and lubed the steering column but noise is still there when you turn the wheel at low speeds. Any ideas?

Having a look at a jeep manual, its says under the steering header...
WHINE OR GROWL
1. Low fluid level. FIX Fill to proper level.
2. Pressure hose in contact with other components. FIX - Reposition hose.
3. Internal pump noise. Fix - Replace pump.
4. Air in the system. Fix - Perform pump initial operation.
Mine seems to come and go but its mainly there. Sometimes its like if i'm doing a sharp turn, I can feel something slip and then it starts to make the sound/grind. Feels like its something to do with the wheels or that direct area!?
I think I also saw somewhere about tire alignment and adjusting the camber too.
