2001 Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0: Replacement ECM/PCM (engine computer) notes
 

Here are some replacement ECM/PCM (engine computer) notes:
- 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0L 4WD
- Mileage when repaired=172.8 (7.2K miles ago)
- Repair date=04/13/17 (18 months ago)

Symptoms:
- On the road:
- Lost all gauges while driving (~5 miles and at 40 mph). All gauges swiped across once like at key on, then no gauges.
- Turned it off, it did restart, drove it home.

Diagnostics:
- Step #1: attach the code reader
- Result: could not connect to computer
- Step #2: disconnected the battery to reset computer
- Results: dash displayed lost sentry key communication. Car would start & run for 3 seconds & auto shutdown.

Cause:
- ECM/PCM (engine computer) failure
