2001 grand cherokee

Hey all. I got a tj and i am looking to get a nice grand for the wife.

found a nice one here in town ... 2001 limited, with all the bells and wissles.
has the 4.7. But it is full time 4wd only has 4hi N and 4LO. was kinda looking for one with the 2hi option.

My questions are ...
1. Do these usaully have LSD's front and rear?
2. what common problems do these have?
3. what is the typical gas milage for this jeep (fulltime 4wd limited grand)?

thanks for any info ya'll can provide.

I can only speak to the second question.

The t-case is most likely an NP249 which is infamous for the viscous couplers failing. I would check the service records to see if/when it has been replaced. I'd say you'll be ok if it has been recently replaced. That way you can take the preventative measures to make sure it doesn't happen again. I think the easiest way to make sure it doesn't happen is to measure the distance from the ground to the exact center of the center cap on the front wheel. Then, using air pressure changes, make the rear wheels match. Also, someone told me not to rotate the tires as much as you would on a vehicle without full-time.

That is all I know of.

My questions are ...
1. Do these usaully have LSD's front and rear? Options
check out: http://www.wjjeeps.com/tcases.htm
2. what common problems do these have? Go to www.jeepforum.com and search "Blend Doors" (only a problem with vehicles equipped with auto climate control)
Progressive coupler in the Transfer Case you speak of which, by the way is a 247. ( No more 249's)
No more "commom" problems than any other vehicle.

3. what is the typical gas milage for this jeep (fulltime 4wd limited grand)? Mine gets 16-20 /4.7l V-8

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the 247 (4F + 4LO) get the 242, which is want you want any way.

Spend some time on www.wjjeeps.com before you commit to any one Jeep GC, it'll help narrow down all the options you're looking for.
