2001 Cherokee key light on
Good day, I am new to this. Have searched but could not find the help I am looking for. Hope someone can be of assistance.
I replaced my battery terminals. Battery is good, had it checked. Now the key icon with circle and line through it on the dash stays on. The engine turns but would not start?
Any ideas what to look at? I only have one key. All the fuses are fine. This is the first time it happened?? Please give some advise??

Unfortunately, you'll probably going to have to take it to a dealer to have it reprogrammed, but how you'll get it there will be a problem. Apparently the security system is not recognizing the key.
It's entirely possible the dealer has some sort of a "Master Key" because I'm sure this has happened before to other people. What about the "Repo" guys?

Just a piece of information; I have an Owners Manual for a 2002 WJ and it states the original owner was provided with a 4 digit PIN number to replicate additional keys without the vehicle being present at the time. It says that if the self-learning system doesn't work, it has to be reprogrammed by the dealer. I think your system lost it's memory when you had the battery out.
A friend of mine lost one of his keys for his Toyota Rav4. It cost him $65 to get another key made because he didn't have the PIN even though he was the Original owner. BUT, that's Toyota.
What they'll probably have to do with yours is program another set of keys.
