2000 xj air filter
Just bought my XJ and am doing a tune up, air filter, plugs, wires, etc.
Took out my air filter and there was a piece of foam glues to it. Is this necessary? Am I losing mpgs or is it there for torque reasons?
Sry, new to the jeep scene. Thanks!

Thats just how one particular company decided to make the filter. It was probably designed to "high capacity", "high flow", "extreme duty" or something like that. The foam media probably catches larger debris without as much restriction as paper only, the the paper media catches the smaller debris.
