Smile 2000 Grand replace shocks?

Hi, I'm the newbie to this forum as well as to 4x4s. I need to replace my shocks, all 4 corners. Milage is 150k, seller says rears were replaced 2 years ago. Jeep bounces alot, it finds every hole on the trail to help us enjoy the ride! Jeep is standard ht, not lifted as far as I can tell. However, was reading elsewhere that some Grands were born with a small lift built in. Have no plans to to lift this one. Town/city driving 75%, 25% on trails, fire roads, etc. Do not plan on doing much truly off road traveling. The Grand is in pretty good shape, my daily driver and only car. Have a budget, don't need anything real fancy. Looking for a stable ride. , Any brand, type, model suggestions?

I have Monroe Sensatracs on mine and they are perfect for me. They've got 75K on them and they're still fine. JMHO however. The Upcountry Suspension Package is about an inch-and-a-half higher but there's no quick way of telling except by getting your build sheet. Run your VIN thru Chrysler.

I have the Up Country Suspension on mine from Jeep. Inch and a half is a stretch. I bought the Monroe shocks for mine. One of the few companies that make them for the stock lift and they were affordable. My Jeep runs stiff but I read that was more a function of the stock lift than the shocks.

I have about 25k on a full set of SkyJacker Hydra7000"s on my stock height '04 WJ. They were definitely hard riding when i put them on, have finally softened up a little, not a bad choice.

Thanks for the replies, all good suggestions. I'll look at the costs and buy and install them!

The Monroes are reasonably priced and restored the OEM ride quality on my 2000 WJ Laredo without riding harsh or skipping on high speed pavement cracks.

thanks, Dave, I ordered front Monroe's today, they were in my budget. the seller told me he replaced the rears 2 years ago. According to the milage on his paperwork, he's only driven 2300 miles since he installed them. I'm headed in the right direction.

One word of warning. On the WJ the rear upper shock mounting bolts tend to loosen if you use the old ones. I personally haven't had that problem, but it has come up on the forum many times. You can use standard hardware Grade 8 bolts from the hardware store if you need them.

Hey, Dave, that's a good reminder. I'll probably change them out just because I was a Boy Scout! Merry Christmas.
